Sophie & Stephie is a solo author-operated brand founded by Ekaterina Otiko, a globe-trotting writer and mother of two. Her mission is to inspire curiosity, cultural awareness, and imagination through travel-themed children’s picture books.

Ekaterina came to Lighthouse Commerce with a strong creative vision and an internationally bestselling children’s book series. But the brand’s digital presence needed to do more than showcase beautiful illustrations.

We started by immersing ourselves in the Sophie & Stephie world.

The books are colorful, curious, emotionally engaging, and rooted in global adventure, so the Shopify experience needed to reflect those same qualities. But the site also had to do real commercial work: help parents understand the series, explore the books, feel trust in the brand, and move naturally toward purchase.

We mapped out a digital storytelling strategy that honored Ekaterina’s voice while organizing the customer journey around clarity and conversion. Visual elements were drawn from the illustrations and tone of the books, while page layouts were shaped around how parents typically shop — quickly, often on mobile, and with a need for immediate trust.

Every touchpoint, from the homepage to the footer, was designed to feel like a continuation of the printed story while still supporting the business goals behind the site.

This turned the brand experience from a simple online presence into a more persuasive ecommerce journey.

Conversion Design & Mobile UX

With more than two-thirds of traffic coming from mobile, we designed the shopping experience around how real parents browse and buy.

The site needed to feel delightful, but it also needed to reduce friction. We used large, tappable elements, clear product imagery, direct CTAs, simplified navigation, and mobile-first layouts to make it easier for customers to move from story interest to product exploration and checkout.

We kept visual continuity from the books through rounded shapes, bright colors, playful icons, and story-themed design details. At the same time, we streamlined the buying path so mobile users could understand the offer, select products, and complete purchases without unnecessary confusion.

The purpose was not only to make the site more beautiful. It was to improve revenue per visitor by making the customer journey easier, faster, and more emotionally compelling.

Email Automation & Engagement

To support ongoing growth, we introduced email automation through Klaviyo.

This was an important part of the brand’s profit system because it gave Sophie & Stephie a direct channel to customers and fans beyond a single site visit.
